The resource as a commodity
"Production solutions" company represents the concept of the digital service platform-aggregator for companies in the metalworking.
A well-known problem faced by many metalworkers is the reloading or underloading of production facilities. Long machine idle time, the work of the enterprise in one and a half or even 0.5 shifts are clear signs of the company's trouble. But the work of production at the limit, in three shifts, is not always an indicator of the successful business. Among the main causes of this problem in both its extreme manifestations are the inability to plan, inefficient management of production processes, supply chains, internal and external logistics, production cooperation and business in general.
It is "treated" today – and quite successfully – with the help of digital tools. What are digital solutions to effectively manage business processes at the level of holdings, at the level of corporations, and perhaps even at the level of regions? Representatives of the company "Production solutions" Director Evgeny Chaplinsky and Deputy Director of the department of Technical Modernization of the "Production solutions" company Alexander Achkasov told about digital solutions at a meeting of the club of digital leaders, organized by solver group within the exhibition "Metalworking – 2019".
- Our firm "Production Solutions" has grown from the separate department of Solver group of companies. We started as a training production center, engaged in personnel training. Now we are a full-fledged production site, our main activities are contract manufacturing and engineering services. This includes the development and implementation of control programs, the introduction of technological processes, assistance in the technical re-equipment of client companies, as well as the training of technological personnel: operators, adjusters of CNC machines, programmers, technologists, etc.
The base of our equipment park consists of five-axis machines, automatic longitudinal turning, turning machining centers. Our production is also equipped with the equipment working on additive technology and allowing not only to make prototypes of products and details, but also to carry out their small-scale production from industrial plastics. But our capabilities are not limited to our own fleet: we have a large pool of contractors-our partners, with whom we have been working for many years, and they complement us in the part where our competencies are lacking, and in some ways, in turn, we complement them. In general, we work in cooperation. We implement projects in various industries. Undertake the production of parts of varying complexity, from a variety of non-ferrous and titanium alloys, stainless steel, structural and tool steels and industrial plastics.
And at all stages of production we work with "digit". Let me tell you more about the digital services we use. For ourselves, we note three main support points, where we use them. Moreover, now we are not talking about the technological part, i.e. modeling, design, programming – these are already established processes. Our three areas are:
- Search for new orders;
- Control of production;
- Planning and execution of orders.
It is true, these points are known as chronic pain of many private industrial companies, isn`t it?
The issue of production control has been practically solved thanks to the introduction of Naviman and Ammolit systems (this is development of our partners, members of the group of companies "Solver"). Let me give you a good example: in the first four months of this year, we increased production by 30% and reduced uncertain losses to 4%. This is a good result, we adhere to it and continue to work in this system. At the moment, we are implementing the production planning system UpexPro. The developer of this system – the company "Modern equipment" is a member of the GC Solver. By implementing this system, we act as a platform for running-in, debugging, testing and introduction of new services that will allow it to work effectively at other, including larger and multifunctional enterprises. It may be interesting to note that, this program can be used not only for work within the enterprise, but also in the planning of cooperation. The system helps to reduce production time, solves the problem of improving the efficiency of predicting, sustainable management of production and providing suppliers.
Let`s talk more to the point for the search of new orders. Digital tools are also used here. In doing so, we face two main challenges. One of them is generally typical for the websites of many companies, as well as for trading, tender Internet sites. On the website we tell in detail about our opportunities, we offer a wide range of products and services. We do not complain about feedback: the site receives a lot of requests and information, and we are interested in it, we work out every appeal. This job is carried out by our managers, technologists are involved for discussion. It takes a lot of resources-both time and material. And as a result, most often it turns out that the next request is not about our line and not about our interest. To implement it comes in 1% of cases or something like that. The same situation is with other sites.
Now let`s have a look on another problem. National portal of subcontracting Ignotum.pro – this, in our opinion, is the most interesting and organized digital platform of the existing similar services. It was developed in the Republic of Tatarstan, it is capacious, informative, convenient, but we can use it only as a library. What do I mean by that? In order to find the necessary information or an interesting idea, we go to the library. Choose the books that we want to read, to understand, then, perhaps, in the last of the books taken, we will find the very clever idea that we were looking for. This is how similar Internet sites work. They present a lot of information. The area is systematized, but it is unclear in the first stage. Whether it is interesting to users, whether it is necessary in principle, - it becomes only after application of certain efforts. And here we thought about how to make it so that both the customer and the contractor were initially clear, interesting and useful to communicate on open trading floors.
How to create such moderation, so that the customer knows our capabilities, so that communications go in the right directions, and all this – on a systematic basis? We began to work on it, and we think we have found one of the ways to solve the problem. Alexander Achkasov will tell us about it in detail.
- In a nutshell, it is an idea to create a virtual platform for posting information about the free resources of industrial companies. Now most enterprises implement lower-level systems, where there is information about the current load of production. As well as planning systems that allow you to determine what free resource the enterprise has. The next step may be to create a platform where these resources would be exhibited and sold. Technically, we are quite capable of it – we have a strong team of developers who participated in the creation of Naviman navigation production management system and Ammolit hardware and software complex. At the moment, the concept of this platform has been developed, we encourage our colleagues and partners to share their ideas and specific proposals for its development. The main idea, again, is the order service. With its help, we will be able, for example, having received a complex, large-scale order, to distribute the work on it among several of our partners registered on the platform, based on the availability of the necessary resources in the form of suitable equipment or the necessary competencies.
We also are planning to introduce electronic circulation of documents between registered participants of the platform. This will reduce the time of decision - making and contracts to move as quickly as possible to work directly on them. In addition, the potential customer will have the opportunity, if necessary, to request and promptly obtain additional information about the resources of the participants of the cooperation chains. I think the placement of information about their resources on our platform may be interesting, including for defense companies, which are now implementing diversification processes. This will facilitate their access to participate in the creation of civil products on a cooperative basis. And will further use the equipment, for example, by organizing a second work shift, engaged in production of civilian goods.
Another important advantage can be obtained by organizing joint procurement of materials using the platform. If local producers combine their orders in the regions and buy materials in large volumes, their price will be more loyal, which will have a positive impact on the cost of products of these companies.
The platform can also be used as a kind of commission platform, where enterprises can put up for sale equipment that is outdated for them or has become unnecessary. And it will be possible to organize the training of personnel with its help. It has already been mentioned that our company has a personnel training center. Thus, we can train employees of other enterprises, certify them. And I must say that the presence of the job seeker of our certificate-in itself an excellent recommendation for the employer. Such sites are now created by Yandex, where semi-annual training courses are conducted. At the end of the course students receive a certificate and can then work or Yandex, or to get a job in other company, having passed additional exams.
Functions of a project broker, joint implementation of large projects, search for investors for tasks and projects, market analysis, researches and development, engineering support – this is a far from complete list of opportunities that the site can provide to its participants. Yet, again, this is only a concept. But given the fact that the load of equipment in the Russian engineering industry now averages 25%, I think this idea has a huge potential and prospects for implementation.
